As a result, the bumpers is stylishly chiseled as well as being extremely strong and functional. The rear bumper utilizes a new cam-style pin adjustment for ensuring perfect gate stowing every time. Re-opening the gate is simple too, only requiring minimal effort, however you can rest easy as the double latch will eliminate accidental opening. The bumper allows impressive ground clearance and can accommodate up to 37" tires. Enjoy the MOLLE Pals compatibility to allow multiple pouch mounting configurations. The bumper includes a Class III rated hitch, mounting locations for your jerry can and lift jack (Jerry Can and Hi-lift are not included) and a 3rd brake light mounting bracket.

Room for improvement

Bumper went on in 2 hours. The Tire carrier and trailer hitch wiring took longer. NEED TO KNOW NATO CANS DO NOT FIT this rack. A little engineering would have fixed this for the driver side jerry can. Needs to have a hole to run wires for the third brake light. Poorly set up for that and CB coax. STURDY/SOLID! No rattles.Feel very sorry for anyone that runs into this bumper.

Not a lot of engineering

Installation was about 5 hours. No way to cleanly wire the third brake light. The tire carrier will NOT accept NATO can on the driver side. No rattles and definitely sturdy. A location for a CB antenna would have been nice also.

Great Bumper, A Pain To Install

good sturdy bumper. Bad instructions and photos. Wasted more time trying to understand the instructions than actually installing everything. the outer holes on driver & passenger side didn't match up with the frame. will have to find an alternate way to secure those spots. the wheel mount studs for the tire carrier should already be mounted onto the adjustable wheel mount plate. I couldn't get them in all of the way, so now I have to find someone with a press to finish the job. Not sure if the money is worth all of these issues. We shall see.

Looks great - needs tighter manufacturing specs

Fantastic concept and design. A lot of issues on fit and finish. I would only recommend to a friend if they are above average in improvising. The bumper did not fit my 2013 Rubicon without the use of a big hammer. It went on an off 6 different times with every wiggle and jiggle, never fitting properly. I was able to get the four bolts installed along the rear. I was only able to get the driver's side bolted. The passenger side will require drilling into the bracket and the frame to align and bolt - or spot welding it - I have not decided which to do. The tire carrier latch pin came preinstalled. It stuck out too far and prevented the carrier from closing. I removed and reinstalled without the spacer on the pin. It still would not close. The bolt heads on the latch mechanism were hitting the edge and scraping off the finish. I tightened them down to create as much space as possible. It closes and latches, but the bolt heads are still rubbing slightly. Once everything was set, the tire carrier is opening and closing the same with or without the added weight of tire, jack, and fuel cans, so my cam adjustment worked as advertised. Everything else seemed to go together properly. I love this bumper for function and appearance. Quality control on production needs to improve greatly as things do not fit. I shouldn't have to hammer my frame end points to get the bumper to go on and then not be able to place all of the proper bolts in the proper location. Lucky for me I have access to a lot of tools and a welder to make it work. If you are a bolt on guy with little resources, then you should seriously consider another product.

Noises bumper on the market

I bought this bumper based on the fact that it incorporated the ability to carry gas and my jack. Installation was done by my 4 Wheel Parts and they said it was a pain to do. This should have been my first indication the bumper would have issues. This bumper rattles and makes more noise over any size bump in the road. It's been in the shop 3 times for 'adjusting' but still makes noise. I can't wait to get rid of it. This bumper is a total waste of money. Like the other review said, the alignment and noise will drive you crazy.

Heavy Duty

I really liked the looks of this bumper. Having read the reviews I knew it was going to heavy (over 200 lbs) but I wouldn't want anything less to hold my spare, gas cans and Hi-Lift jack. Be prepared to spend a couple of hours with a friend (see heavy) to install this bumper. I didn't have any issues with the packaging or delivery and the powder coat and welds all look to be a good quality. The mounting holes and brackets all lined up with no problems. Every piece of hardware was included in the package. There were no issues installing the tire carrier to the bumper either. Being able to hook so much stuff to this bumper and not having to have in the Jeep with me is what sold me. A 37" spare, 10 gallons of gas, my ever trusty high-lift jack and a class III tow hitch. It looks really good and I haven't had any problems or rattles to speak of after 2 months. Couple of things I would say are : Get a drop hitch a 37" tire takes up a lot of space. When you adjust the latch do it with full fuel cans. Overall I am very pleased with the quality and fitment of this bumper and would recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade the rear bumper.

To many small issues add up to problems.

Lots of vibration regardless of the driving surface. So much so that the welds on the thrid brakelight bracket cracked within 2 months. The latch does not work very well. Requires that the carrier part is perfectly lined up. Unfortunately that changes drastically as the load changes. If you set it up so it latches easily with a 35" spare and 2 full gas cans when the cans are empty the latch is way to high. If you adjust it so it's lined up with no gas in the cans then when you add gas the carrier has actually bent far enough down to not latch at all. You have to pickup the carrier as you close it so the latch will catch. And the carrier, 35" spare, and two full gas cans is tough to lift as your swinging it shut. I've got it adjusted with 1 full gas can and it's still an issue. The latch itself does not always close it gets stuck in the "open" position and you have to manually push the latch in before it will catch when you try to close it. Poorly built on both ends that the carrier attaches to the bumper. The hitch receiver is mounted high on the bumper so you have to use a hitch with a significant drop or you can't open the carrier without pulling out the hitch. There is no easy way to lock the carrier so that someone can't steal your gas cans. I've spoken to two other owners of this bumper and they have the same issues I have so I'm not unique.

Nice bumper with plenty of features

Like most Smittybilt items, it's very solidly built, but needs some tweaking to get it in place. The bumper comes in two boxes on a pallet. One contains the bumper and it related hardware. The second contains the carrier. The instructions pictures are black & white and sometime difficult to see what they are trying to show you. But the instructions reference hardware that is part marked on individual bags. The bumper took a little wiggling, but went together easily enough. The carrier was almost as easy. Some things that were out of spec and required reworking: Lock pin is too short and required a washer between it and the bumper, the cam that adjust the closing, the holes did not match up the ones on the bumper and required enlarging, and the hitch pin hole required enlarging because of the paint. Other than that, I didn't have any other issues installing. It closes easily and does not rattle. When ordering this, call and find out if it is in stock. It took 8 weeks for this to arrive.

I have a 2014 JK, I had the XRC rear bumper installed by a local shop. I'm having a rattle problem while driving down the road and the arm where it pivots on the bumper has a lot of play in it. Could this be a defect or an installation problem?

Asked by RB JEEPER from Vacaville, CA on

Hey RB JEEPER, the Smittybilt XRC Atlas Rear Bumper and Tire Carrier requires shims on the pivot. Sounds to me like it may need more shims added in to eliminate the rattle. Thanks for your question.

I just purchased a jeep with the Smittybilt Atlas on the back, and for some reason I cannot get it to swing open. Is there a pin that needs to be pulled or something I cannot find, or are you just supposed to pull the silver handle?

Asked by bhulse76 from Ogden, UT on

Hey Bhulse76, the Smittybilt XRC Atlas Rear Bumper and Tire Carrier has a black paddle handle on the drivers side of the bumper that you pull to open it. Sometimes you need to push up on the tire carrier to get the handle to open. Thanks for your question.

Answered by Devin B. ext 4835 from Ogden, UT on

Will this bumper and tire carrier work with my Jeep? I drive a 2014 Wrangler Unlimited Sport. It has the AEV 4.5" Lift with 35" tires as well as the AEV High Tuck exhaust heading out the drivers side rear.

Asked by Ryan from Jackson, WY on

Hi Ryan Yes the XRC Atlas Rear Bumper and Tire Carrier will work fine on your Jeep. Thanks
